Since I'm on a journey to get financially organized, I have decided to not have a clothing budget. I have been inspired by many ladies on their blogs to take this challenge. Many of these ladies have created a one year challenge but I'm going to take a different approach, I'm not going to buy any new clothes until absolutely necessary. Although this sounds very simple, this approach works for me because I'll put more thought into what I buy and not binge shop at the end of a one year challenge. I think this might be easier for me because I wouldn't consider myself stylish and my work is pretty laid back about what we wear. I don't really like dress pants and haven't worn them in months. I basically live in jeans and leggings. This approach also works for me because I have very specific goals in mind and if I buy clothes that are not required, I cannot achieve them.
Another challenge is to shop at thrift stores only when necessary and if possible. I'm open to the idea and I'm willing to give it a try. I had the stereotypical thoughts of used clothing being 'gross' because they've been worn by other people and I assumed there wouldn't be anything worth buying. I've donated numerous amounts of clothing and for the most part, it was clothes that didn't fit anymore or I just got tired of it. Therefore, I realize there could be some good deals as others purge their closets for that exact reason. I also never liked going through racks of clothes to find a deal, I'd rather see everything displayed without having to touch it so that will probably discourage me from shopping unnecessarily.
I know over time clothes start to feel old or you just get tired of them. What I've been doing more recently is looking at Pinterest for inspiration and find outfits that have similar clothing pieces and accessories. It feels like you're bringing new life to your clothes. Especially because I find I have a harder time knowing what to put together, this has helped a lot. Sometimes it was just a matter of adding a colourful belt or a cheap necklace from Forever21. Although, now with my new challenge, I won't be buying any new accessories.
