About Me
I am starting my journey by paying off my debt completely and start saving for my future.
I never had a lot of consumer debt compared to a lot of people but the number always remained the same amount. After I would pay it, I would just use my visa again and therefore never getting anywhere and not being able to save any money. At a younger age, I had the common sense to at least cut out any unnecessary subscriptions, gym memberships, no TV cable but one of my biggest financial downfalls was eating out all the time with clothing and house items at a close second. I've tried budgeting numerous times which would work for a month or two at the most. Even if there was money leftover in my grocery budget, I would spend it anyways because it was there.
Then I read the blog from Anna at www.andthenwesaved.com . She started the Spending Fast® and rather than budgeting a certain amount, she bought only what she needed for a full year. This made a lot more sense to me, it made me think of every purchase rather than spending it just because it's in 'my budget'. Then I came across Mr Money Mustache's blog (www.mrmoneymustache.com), this also resonated with me. Before reading his blog, I didn't even think it was going to be possible to retire earlier than 65. It was not something that ever came across my mind, with the idea from other finance articles, I thought I would never be able to save enough for retirement. Although I did start an RRSP account at 25, I didn't contribute a lot and stopped it for numerous different reasons (Recession, down payment for house and divorce). I'm glad I started it but I am not where I should be at my age.
This is my journey to get my financial life in order and have financial freedom.
